Lets Make : A Potato Battery

What You Will Need:

1. A Potato (or more. )
2. A Copper Strip
3. A Zinc Strip
4. 2 x 10 cm copper Wire ( Preferably with Crocodile Clips . One red and one black)
5. 1 x LED
6. Optional Tools - Multi-meter ( If you don't have one, check in our store )

INSTRUCTIONS :

STEP 1

First Get one or two Potatoes. 

STEP 2

Stick The Zinc strip In the One Side of the potato and the copper strip in the other side of the potato. Make sure that the two strips do not touch each other inside the potato.  Connect the black wire to the Copper strip and the red wire to the zinc strip.

STEP 3

Now look at the LED. it should have a long leg and a short leg. The long leg is the positive side and the short leg is the negative side. The LED also has a flat side that determines the negative leg.

STEP 4

Connect the red wire to the positive side of the LED and the black wire to the negative side of the LED

WHY THIS WORKS ?

 The Potato acts as Electrolyte between the two metal strips. Electrons accumulate at the negative electrode (Copper Strip).
